Project Updates

July 11, 2019

Dear neighbor,

We are excited to share another significant milestone for the AES Huntington Beach Energy Project (HBEP); commissioning and testing of the auxiliary boiler. The auxiliary boiler is responsible for providing supplementary steam for the new generating plant. It will play a vital role in system start-up during the commissioning stage of the combined-cycle gas turbines and when the HBEP is in operation. Commissioning and testing of the auxiliary boiler will include a battery of tests to clean and safely remove all the debris, rust, mill scale, and impurities left from construction activities.

As we previously communicated, over the next few months, we will commission and test the various components and systems of the new plant in preparation of the first start-up of the combustion turbines taking place in October 2019. During system start-up activities, all critical systems and components of the new plant, from high-voltage electrical systems to pumps, fans and compressors will be tested to insure they meet their design specifications and can operate safely and effectively before we start-up the entire plant.

Here's what you can expect to see and hear during auxiliary boiler commissioning and testing over the course of 3 weeks, beginning the week of July 15, 2019:
